Number Zero (0) - Numerical Digit

Number 0 is one of the most unique and central numbers in the subject of mathematics. Number Zero is also used as the additive identity of natural numbers, whole numbers, integers, real numbers, and many other algebraic structures. In place value systems, 0 is treated as a placeholder digit.

The origin of Number Zero in the English language stems from French and Italian words, which in turn, were a contraction of the Venetian Zevero form. Having its roots as a number in Islamic and Indian cultures as well, it was used in its modern form in 1598 and continues to be the same to this day.

It is also synonymous with the words “Nothing” or “None” and is used alternatively to describe the act of lacking, in many contexts.
